Matt Leaning

Matt is one of our junior instructors, reaching the position in 2026.

Along with fellow student Charles Simpson, Matt has been working on his own interpretations of English longsword manuscripts including Harleian, Ledall and Cotton Titus. This endeavour included their own translation to the English, as well as the opportunity to handle and inspect the original 14th-15th century texts. Their findings are presented on their YouTube channel "Two Haukes".

Matt has competed in tournaments across the UK and one of only 2 Wolfshead members to compete outside of England. He has medalled externally winning gold medals for Open Longsword at Wolf Calls IV and V in 2025 and 2026 respectively. He is also a 3-time Wolfshead Longsword Champion

Away from Wolfshead, Matt runs a Witcher group called The Academy of the Wolf.
