Matt Leaning

Matt is one of our junior instructors, reaching the position in 2026.

Along with fellow student Charles Simpson, Matt has been working on his own interpretations of English longsword manuscripts including Harleian, Ledall and Cotton Titus. This endeavour included their own translation to the English, as well as the opportunity to handle and inspect the original 14th-15th century texts.

Matt has competed in tournaments across the UK and one of only 2 to compete outside of England. He has medalled externally and won a gold medal for Longsword at Wolf Call IV in 2025. He is also a 2-time Wolfshead Longsword Champion

Away from Wolfshead, Matt runs a Witcher group called The Academy of the Wolf.
